Cleaning in Wimbledon — What We See
Wimbledon's cleaning profile is shaped by big houses, long family tenancies, and the annual tennis tournament. The Village — centred on the High Street above the Common — has the most expensive stock: detached houses with Wolf or Gaggenau kitchens, conservatories, landscaped gardens, and rents above £5,000/month. Agents like Robert Holmes (25+ years, connected with the tennis community and embassies) and Savills handle the premium checkout inspections here.
Below the Village, the residential streets around Wimbledon Hill Road, Worple Road, and the station area have a mix of Edwardian and Victorian semis and terraces — many converted into flats closer to the town centre, with larger family houses further out toward the Common and Wimbledon Park. These are typically 3–5 year family lets with thorough checkout inspections because the landlords know the demand never drops.
The tennis-fortnight effect is unique to Wimbledon. Every late June to early July, some landlords let their properties to players, officials, corporate hospitality, or visiting fans at £5,000–£15,000 for two weeks. These tennis lets need a rapid deep clean afterward — often within 48 hours — before the regular tenant returns or the property goes back on the long-term market. Royal Cleaning schedules additional Wimbledon capacity for the first week of July every year.

Get Your Exact Price3-Bed Edwardian Semi Near Wimbledon Park — Post-Tennis-Let Turnaround, Robert Holmes Checkout
A real end of tenancy clean in Wimbledon — the property, the challenges, the result.
An Edwardian semi near Wimbledon Park — a 10-minute walk from the All England Club. The landlord lets the property through Robert Holmes (25+ years in Wimbledon, connected with the tennis community) to a visiting player's family for the Championships fortnight every year. This was the post-tournament reset — the family had left on the Monday after the men's final, and the landlord's regular long-term tenants were returning on Wednesday.
Royal Cleaning sent a 3-person team on Tuesday morning. The property was furnished — every surface, every piece of furniture, every item needed checking. Two weeks of a family of four, including children, had left the kitchen well-used. A Rangemaster cooker (5-burner, two ovens, griddle plate) was the centrepiece — both ovens degreased, the griddle plate scraped and restored, the splashback and hob surround cleaned. Stone worktops wiped with pH-neutral cleaner. Inside all cupboards and drawers checked and wiped.
Three bedrooms — beds stripped (linens sent to laundry by the landlord separately), mattresses aired, all surfaces wiped. Fitted wardrobes emptied of guest items left behind (two tennis rackets and a tournament programme found in a wardrobe — returned to Robert Holmes). Bay window sash tracks vacuumed. Original Edwardian cornicing dusted throughout.
Family bathroom with a freestanding roll-top bath. Limescale moderate at ~260 ppm. An en-suite shower room off the master bedroom — shower screen descaled, chrome polished. A ground-floor cloakroom with a Victorian-style basin.
The rear garden wasn't in our scope but the bifold doors to the garden had tracks full of grass cuttings and soil. The conservatory glass panels were cleaned inside and out.
Robert Holmes inspected on Wednesday morning — checked every room against the furnished inventory. The regular tenants moved back in that afternoon. Clean passed, property reset within the 48-hour window.
“Property reset within the 48-hour window. Rangemaster, bathrooms, and conservatory all to standard. Regular tenants moved back in on schedule.”
Challenges
- Post-tennis-let 48-hour turnaround — furnished property, item-by-item inventory check
- Rangemaster with griddle — both ovens, griddle plate, 5-burner hob, 75+ minutes
- Guest items left behind — found and returned via the agent
- Freestanding roll-top bath — cleaned underneath and around claw feet
- Bifold tracks full of grass cuttings and soil from garden use
- 3-person team scheduled for same-day completion
Parking
Property had a driveway — 3-person team parked on the drive. No permit needed. The surrounding streets have temporary Championship parking restrictions in late June/early July, but this job was on 15 July — restrictions had been lifted.
Local Info for Wimbledon
Parking
Wimbledon town centre and Wimbledon Hill Road are CPZ Mon–Sat 8:30am–6:30pm. The Village has residents-only parking on most streets. Wimbledon Park has partial CPZ near the station and the All England Club, with additional temporary restrictions during the Championships fortnight (late June–early July) — our teams avoid scheduling near the Club during this period unless it's a tennis-let turnaround. Side streets off Worple Road have some free parking. Most family houses in SW19 have driveways — the bigger the house, the easier the access. Visitor permits via Merton Council (£4.50/day via RingGo).
Common Challenges
- Large family homes with 3+ bathrooms — a 4-bed detached with en-suites and a family bathroom can have 90+ minutes of descaling work across the property
- Wolf, Gaggenau, and AGA cookers — Village properties have professional-grade appliances that take 90+ minutes each. Standard domestic oven cleaning doesn't apply.
- Conservatories and rear extensions — glass panels, bifold doors, drainage channels, and blinds add 60–90 minutes to a family home clean
- Tennis-fortnight turnarounds — 48-hour deep clean after a 2-week short let. Furnished properties with high-end furnishings that must be checked item by item.
- Hard water at ~260 ppm — moderate limescale on bathroom chrome, consistent across SW19
- Long family tenancies (3–5 years) — significant accumulated wear on ovens, bathrooms, carpets, and garden-to-kitchen threshold areas
